Here you can find facts about the beautiful town of Buckeye. Buckeye is part of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area and it is in Maricopa County. Founded in 1888, Buckeye AZ now borders Surprise, planned areas of Wickenburg to the north, Glendale, and Goodyear to the east, with Gila Bend on the south. To the west is the unincorporated area of Tonopah. Buckeye was originally founded and build around Monroe Ave. and was incorporated about 80 yrs ago. Many of the illustrations on this page depict farmland and older parts of Buckeye. But don't be fooled, Buckeye has many new public buildings, homes, and businesses. These will be pictured in our gallery, which we should have out really soon.
Buckeye Growth
The town had a slow steady grownth until the 21st century when it experienced a huge growth spurt. Serious development began in the early 2000's, with the
Town's first master-planned community, Sundance. This neighborhood is located around the intersection of Yuma Rd. and Watson Rd. right off of I-10. The Sundance Town Center is at this intersection and was the first of many large shopping centers to be built in the Buckeye area. Buckeye covers over 145 square miles and currently has a 600 quare mile planning area. The Town of Buckeye, AZ population has grown dramatically. In 2000, there were approximately 6,500 people and estimated at about 35,000 people in 2007. Buckeye has the space to expand, and expanding it is. Construction can still be seen in and about Buckeye even though we are in a bad economy. Just driving around some main roads you will see new commercial and residential buildings rising out of the once farmland.
As of 2008 there were over 20 master planned communities and about 400,000 single-family units had been approved. Six of the master planned communities have more than 250,000 homes planned.
